I lived in the
country, on a farm, my family got a pig from this girl who'd
been given one for her birthday, and then the girl had to
go to college. This pig had been raised with german shepards,
and consequently thought that she was just a large, unwieldly
dog. That line between animals for food and animals for
pets was stamped out by her. How could it be right to turn
her into sausage while my own laborador was equally intelligent,
sweet and interesting? This extended to many more animals,
cows, chickens, fish, I no longer felt I had the right to
decide who was okay to kill merely because they tasted good.
Vegan came later, when I learned more about the connections
between meat and dairy or eggs. In my experienced opinion,
it is impossible to run a business based on animal products
that does not, eventually, result in the death of the animal. |
